Confessions of a Chaos Demon: How I Finally Mastered Home Organization

By Sienna — Spontaneous, playful, a little chaotic. Life's an adventure and I'm dragging you along. ·

If you’ve ever sat on the floor of your living room, surrounded by a mountain of laundry and a half-finished script, wondering why your life feels like a game of Jenga that’s about to collapse, you’re in my tribe.

I’m Sienna, and for the record: I am not a naturally organized person. My brain is basically a browser with 47 tabs open, three of them are frozen, and I have no idea where the music is coming from. Living in Silver Lake on a PA’s salary means my apartment is roughly the size of a walk-in closet, and for the longest time, I treated it like a glorified storage unit for my erratic lifestyle. But after tripping over Gerald’s spare floor mat (don’t ask why it was in the kitchen) for the third time this month, I decided it was time to fix the chaos.

Here’s how I tackled home organization without losing my soul or my spontaneity.

The “Drop Zone” Strategy (Or: Stop Leaving Your Stuff Everywhere)

When I get home after a 14-hour shoot, the last thing I want to do is put my keys in a designated ceramic bowl. I want to throw them into the air and hope they land somewhere that isn’t the trash can.

But here’s the reality: if you don’t have a place for your “stuff,” your “stuff” becomes your decor. My solution? The Drop Zone. I put a small, heavy-duty basket right by the door. If it’s not in the basket, it doesn't exist in the entryway. Keys, sunglasses, that weird prop I accidentally brought home from set—everything goes in the basket. It’s not about being ‘neat,’ it’s about containing the chaos so it doesn’t migrate into the bedroom.

The 10-Minute “Reset” Ritual

My twin brother Cole visited last month and asked if I was ‘practicing feng shui’ because my coffee table was actually visible. I laughed so hard I almost dropped my iced coffee. The secret isn’t a deep clean; it’s the 10-minute reset.

Every night, before I turn on my ‘doom-scrolling’ podcast, I set a timer for ten minutes. I don’t try to scrub the floors or alphabetize my spice rack. I just clear the ‘surface clutter.’ If it’s not supposed to be on a surface, it goes away. That’s it. It keeps the apartment feeling like a sanctuary rather than a crime scene. Trust me, waking up to a clean kitchen counter hits different.

Vertical Space is Your Best Friend (Especially in LA)

If you live in a shoebox like I do, you need to stop thinking horizontally and start thinking vertically. I used to hate the idea of open shelving, but then I realized I was just using my floor space for things that should be on the wall.

I bought these cheap command-strip hooks and put them on the back of every single door. My bags, my jackets, even my headphones hang there. It cleared up so much floor space that I actually have room to do yoga (or, you know, eat pizza on the floor). If you aren’t using the back of your doors, you’re wasting prime real estate.

The “One-In, One-Out” Rule (The PA Way)

Working in reality TV, I’ve learned that when a set gets too crowded, you have to cut the fluff. I apply this to my apartment. Every time I buy something new—a new vinyl, a cool thrifted lamp, a fresh plant—something else has to go.

It keeps me from becoming a hoarder of random ‘adventure souvenirs.’ If I haven’t touched a piece of decor or worn a shirt in six months, it’s getting donated to the local thrift store. It keeps the energy in my space moving. Stagnant stuff = stagnant vibes.

Embrace the ‘Controlled Chaos’ Aesthetic

Look, you don’t need to live in a minimalist showroom that looks like it’s waiting for a photoshoot. That’s not real life. My home is a reflection of my life—it’s got the posters, the weird art, the stack of unread books, and the half-empty candle collection.

Organization isn’t about hiding who you are; it’s about making sure your stuff doesn’t get in the way of you being you. If you have to organize your life to the point where you’re afraid to breathe, you’ve done it wrong. Keep the ‘you’ in your home, just tuck the mess away in a cute bin so you can actually find your passport when a last-minute road trip calls.

Life is a wild ride, and sometimes your apartment is going to look like a tornado hit it. That’s okay. Just don’t let the tornado stay for too long.

How do you handle the clutter when life gets hectic? Do you have a ‘junk drawer’ that’s secretly a black hole, or are you actually a functioning human being? Let’s talk about it in the comments—I need to know I’m not the only one who loses their keys in the fridge.
