Skincare Routine for the Chronically Chaotic: How to Glow Without the Maintenance

By Sienna — Spontaneous, playful, a little chaotic. Life's an adventure and I'm dragging you along. ·

Look, I know what you’re expecting. You’re expecting a twelve-step routine involving expensive serums that smell like expensive dirt, a jade roller that’s probably just collecting dust, and a promise that if I drink enough matcha, I’ll magically stop getting breakouts after a 14-hour shift on set.

Spoiler alert: I don’t have time for that. My life is a blur of craft services coffee, chasing talent, and trying to keep Gerald—my Honda Civic—from making that weird clicking sound on the 101. If I’m at home, I’m probably eating cereal at 2:00 AM or arguing with my twin brother, Cole, about whose turn it is to take the trash out.

But here’s the thing: I’m 23, I live in LA, and the sun here is basically a personal vendetta against my face. So, I’ve had to hack a skincare routine that survives the chaos. If you’re like me—spontaneous, perpetually busy, and allergic to high-maintenance rituals—this is for you.

The “I’m Exhausted and Want to Sleep” Bare Minimum

Let’s be real. There are nights when I walk through my front door, drop my bag, and the thought of washing my face feels like climbing Everest. But I’ve learned the hard way that sleeping in set-makeup is a one-way ticket to Skin Disaster City.

My rule: Keep a pack of micellar water wipes on your nightstand. Not in the bathroom—on the nightstand. If you can’t get to the sink, wipe it off in bed. It’s not the “perfect” double-cleanse, but it’s better than sleeping in foundation and city grime. If you have the energy to splash water on your face, do it. If not? The wipe is your best friend. Don’t let the skincare police make you feel guilty for being tired.

SPF Is Not Optional (And It’s Not Just for the Beach)

I moved here with $800 and a dream, and half of that money went toward sun damage prevention because I’m terrified of looking like a leather handbag by 30. You think you don’t need SPF because you’re indoors? Wrong. Between the studio lights and the massive windows in my apartment, I’m basically living in a giant UV oven.

Stop buying the thick, white, chalky stuff that makes you look like a ghost. Find a chemical SPF that feels like a moisturizer. I’m currently obsessed with the ones that feel like water. If you hate it, you won’t wear it. Find one you actually like, keep it in Gerald’s glove box, and reapply it when you’re stuck in traffic. It’s the single biggest favor you can do for your future self.

Simplify Your Stash: The Three-Product Rule

Marketing people want you to think you need a separate cream for your eyelids, your cheekbones, and your left pinky toe. You don’t.

Here’s my “Chaos Demon” kit: 1. A gentle cleanser that doesn't strip your face (if it makes your skin feel tight, it’s too harsh). 2. A hydrating serum. Hyaluronic acid is your best friend. It’s like a tall glass of water for your face. 3. A moisturizer that doesn't clog your pores.

That’s it. That’s the list. Everything else is just a fun science experiment. If you’re feeling fancy, add an exfoliant once a week, but don’t make it a chore. If you turn self-care into homework, you’re never going to do it.

Hydration Is Internal (And Yes, I Mean Water)

I hate being the person who says “drink more water,” but I’m going to be that person. When I’m running around a set, I forget to drink anything other than iced coffee. By 4:00 PM, I look like a shriveled raisin.

I started carrying a massive, obnoxious reusable bottle everywhere. If it’s in my hand, I drink it. If it’s not, I don’t. When I’m hydrated, my skin looks like I actually slept eight hours, even when I definitely didn’t. Your skin is the biggest organ you have; treat it like it’s paying rent.

When Life (And Your Skin) Gets Messy

Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you’re going to get a breakout. Maybe it’s stress, maybe it’s that late-night taco run, maybe it’s just hormones. Do not—I repeat, do not—pick at it. I have scars on my chin from when I was 19 that are basically permanent residents.

Keep pimple patches in your bag. They’re basically stickers that hide your breakout and suck the gunk out while you’re out living your life. It’s the closest thing we have to real-life magic. Stick it on, go do something fun, and pretend your skin isn’t acting out.

Don’t Aim for Perfect, Aim for Consistent

Life is an adventure, and your skincare routine should be able to keep up with you, not hold you back. If you miss a day, who cares? If you fall asleep in your makeup once, you’ll survive. The goal is to build habits that don't feel like a cage.

I’m not trying to be a model; I’m trying to be a human who feels good in her own skin while she’s chasing down her next big break. If your routine makes you feel like you're achieving something, you're winning. If it feels like a burden, scrap it and start over.

So, what about you? Are you a “ten-step ritual” person or a “splash and dash” survivor? Drop a comment below and let me know how you keep your glow when your life is hitting maximum chaos. I’m dying to hear your hacks—or just hear about your latest life disaster. Let’s dish.
